How do the copyrighted works that you’re using in Project 1 exhibit fair use of the copyrighted material?? Just because you have copyrighted material that belongs to your name doesn’t necessarily mean that no other person can ever you that material again. In fact they can… as long as it is used under “fair use”. Someone else can use your copyrighted work as long as they are using it in a way that is different from the original way, and are using it to benefit society, like for a school project or something to that effect. The fair use laws provide people with an extremely nice leg to stand on because when using someone else’s work under the fair use laws you are not required to get permission for the original owner, which means that under no circumstances do you need to pay for the work, or would you need to cite the work in your paper, project, book, website etc.. While completing Project 1, our group will fall under the fair use laws because we are taking original photograph and using them in a way that is much different than the original and because we are going to use them in a way that will hopefully help benefit society by educating people on the on the rise of social media in pop culture, specifically on the issue on the lack of privacy that has resulted in our culture do to the use of social media. We achieved this goal by exploring the extremely popular social networking site Facebook and researching the possible effects of making personal information, via status updates and photos, public on this website. This is an important topic to address because Facebook is so widely used today by people from a variety of different backgrounds and they may not realize the implications of posting personal information online. All of the photos that we used for Project 1 will have an explanation to accompany them as to why they were safe to use under the fair use laws.
